Tonight we are staying in a town east of Oregon called Hood River. Bj was at the library all day working. But the library closed at 5 and he wanted to find somewhere else to work. We found a nice bar with internet and he was working there for a few hours.

So every September, a colony of migrating swifts roost in this school’s chimney. They stop in Portland on their way south to eat insects. By day they are out flying around hunting insects, and when the sun sets they all return to this chimney, where thousands of them roost for the month.

So we are in Portland, Oregon. We drove down here yesterday and the day before from Rossland, B.C. It was a beautiful and stunning drive through the strange desert in Washington. Vibrant yellow grass on hills with big black rocks and mesas.

On Thursday we stayed at the “Ainsworth Hot Springs Resort”. It’s a not too classy resort in the Kootenay mountains. For five dollars we spent the night in the car park in our van.

So last night we “went out” in Nelson. We had seen a little poster for a dj night with some music that seemed interesting. We put on some decent threads and sought out the bar in question.
