Raleigh cont…
Still in suburban Raleigh, North Carolina. We have been here a week tomorrow and I daresay I am very thoroughly enjoying passing my days in the company the three Crump children. Little crumpets.
Sydney continues to delight me. I won’t say that she doesn’t annoy me as well. She can be very annoying. In two words: [...]Love and Betrayal
ha ha ha everyone, thanks for all your input. We love you all. Rozie and Que I LOVE that you both suggested cellophane over the lights. Lambert, appreciate the back to tha future comparison. Very apt. Oh and the wood veneer contact idea- great, but do “they” still sell wood veneer contact? I somehow am [...]
Our Dilema and Sydney Crump
So our situation has gone from bad to terrible. Unimaginably terrible really. From unimaginably terrible to temporarily great. We don’t know what will be next.
But right now we are in Raleigh, North Carolina staying with Bj’s step sister Kim and her husband and three little kids. We drove here from Waynesboro, Virginia yesterday in a [...]Ragz 2 Richez
So we left Seneca this morning to drive about 400 miles south-east to Raleigh, North Carolina, to go visit Bj’s stepsister and family for a few days. However, after a particularly harrowing Appalachian Mountain crossing, poor John Henry freaked out and packed it in, and with steam hissing out of the bonnet we had to [...]
Sweet Summit
So, we scaled the heights of Seneca Rocks yesterday! We triumphantly reached the top of the plume/the mohawk/the dorsal fin that protrudes from the top of the nearby mountain, known as Seneca Rocks.

Originally I was trying to make my voice sound like a sort of Steven Hawkings robot, but it wasn’t quite right, it was going to be like a modern take, [...]y’all might wanna check this out

My dear friends in Newcastle, let’s call them “Micky and Tess” have a band ToMe FromMe and they have honoured us with an amazing version of the song “John Henry” which they’ve put on their website. It’s TOTALLY EXCELLENT. If you know the song, which I of course do intimately, having heard about ten different [...]Excerpts
This isn’t customary but instead of a blog post here I wanna share two little excerpts from emails I got today that I thought were worthy of a larger audience.
The first one is from Serena who is on a family holiday in B.C…
“when me and my sister were in the thriftstore the ladies were going [...]We’re still in Seneca Rocks, West Virginia, camped two metres from a mountain stream in which we bathe daily… The population of this town appears to be about 30… More people here on weekends, mainly climbers from nearby cities- Washington D.C. and Baltimore etc. But our spot here is pure heaven. Every evening there’s little [...]
West Virginny
Wednesday: Talcott
Today we paid homage to John Henry – the legend. There is a statue of him outside of Talcott, West Virginia. It is above the opening to the “Great Bend” railroad tunnel, which is where he purportedly hammered himself to death while trying to beat the new mechanised steam drill [...]
